EAST MIDTOWN COASTAL RESILIENCY

NEW YORK CITY

Protecting 5 blocks of Midtown East and critical hospital facilities from a 500-year storm event

ARCHITECT OF RECORD / URBAN DESIGN / INFRASTRUCTURE DESIGN

The last compartment of the original “Big U” concept, the Bellevue Campus/East Midtown Coastal Resiliency project will protect five blocks of Midtown Manhattan, from 25th Street to 30th Street along the East River. The project plans to locate a pump station within the Bellevue Campus in consideration of minimal impacts and feasibility of future hospital tower integration. The northern tie-in along 30th street is coordinated with a historic civic building; requiring new integration of flood protection and open space, and the opportunity to improve access/circulation and functionality of the complex and its public-facing program.
